One app to read them all
Readly AB is a Swedish digital newspaper and magazine subscription service founded in 2012, with content from over 800 third-party publishers, available via browser and apps for a monthly fee.
Readly approached us with the goal of improving their product. We gladly took on the role and soon formed their first product design team. After a thorough audit, we formulated a design strategy and supported the development of a new product strategy.

Readly Design System
Readly's design system relies on tokens as the foundation, ensuring consistent branding across all UIs and channels. Tokens unify elements like typography, colors, icons, and breakpoints, simplifying sharing across UI Kits and conversion to formats like JSON/XML for easy developer use.

Magazines provide captivating images and interesting articles, perfect to pastime during a morning commute. However we learned from research that users don’t use Readly app on-the-go, or for shorter amount of time. Therefore this project emerged strategically to alter this behaviour.

Although the platform already featured curated articles, the level of interaction with these shorter reads was rare. Subsequently, it became evident that harnessing the visual assets present in magazines could be beneficial. This realisation prompted us to focus on the development of a high-fidelity prototype. This encompassed a redesigned article layout, a repositioned article carousel, and the introduction of a supplementary section catering to users in a browsing mode.
